Grace turns six

In October 2014 I adopted a pure-bred Labrador Retriever from the SPCA here in Goose Bay, her name is Grace (also known as Gracie and G-dawg). Since that day her and I have become very good friends. For a non-human, she’s very intuitive when it comes to people’s feelings and she’s very comforting to have around.

Grace was diagnosed with progressive retinal atrophy shortly before her 5th birthday, some days it’s a real challenge. But as the vet pointed out, it’s more painful for me than her. Because it’s a gradual process she has time to get used to her declining vision, but I would love more than anything to give her her full vision back. She’s such a happy dog and to see her get excited about something makes my heart feel full.

I’m not sure what the lifespan is on dogs with such a condition, or what the life span is on pure-bred Labs in general. I just know that I’m going to try my hardest to make her life safe and happy, because she does that for me.

Love M + G
