Color of outdoors blog

One of my most prized possessions is a letter written to me by author Kevin Major from when I was in high school.  I’ve kept it safely tucked away for years, and now it’s framed on my wall. Mr. Major visited our school and attended one of our English classes. He asked us to write a story or a poem and he’d sit and talk with us about our writing when we were all finished. One thing that always stuck with me was this letter and what he said. I won’t write out everything he wrote, but this last part means the most to me.

“Seize the day. Hold fast to dreams. May your future take you to exciting places.” – Kevin Major

I think it was at that very time that I sat with Mr. Major when I knew I really wanted to write.
